Champions breakdown
How the champion count on Our Champions is made up. These are the same numbers the public page uses, so the total always matches.
What does "champion" mean? How is it different from a runner?
Champion = a fundraiser: someone who has committed to raise money. Champions are counted from the fundraising commitment, whether or not the person has filled in their race details yet.
- Individual and Fundraising Supporter: 1 each (minimum $1,000, or $500 if under 18).
- Mentor-Mentee Pair: 1 for the pair (minimum $1,000); the mentee does not fundraise.
- Parent-Child: 1 if the child is a Life Community child ($1,000), otherwise 2 ($1,500 = $1,000 adult + $500 child).
- Group: the adults plus children who are not Life Community children, as declared at registration ($1,000 per adult, $500 per such child).
- Corporate: each approved runner slot counts as 1 champion, whether or not it has been filled.
Life Community children are never champions (their fee and target are waived), but they are runners.
Runner = an actual race-day participant, shown on the T-shirt/Bib Desk: everyone who has chosen a T-shirt size and race category and has a bib, including mentees and Life Community children. Corporate and group members only appear as runners once they submit their own participant form; Fundraising Supporters are never runners. So champions runs ahead of runners while slots and group members are still being filled.
